Latest House Photos & Sophie Says “Mom!”
Hey folks, guess where we’re off too on Wednesday? DUBAI! Why? Because it’s 82F (28C) there, and it’s a heck of a lot colder here.
But for now, I’d like to share the latest fruits of my interior decorating efforts. And a few videos where we try to capture Sophie on film saying MOM (she did our best to thwart our every effort…).
And so, some Hamburgh house photos…
I love this kitchen (mostly for the fabulous cupboard space, dual fridges, and gas stove, but the apple green tiles are cute too):
Here is my best effort at a “California spa” bathroom. I’ll have you know it was no easy feat to get a 2-sink vanity (those are rarer than a diet coke with ice in these parts). I had to order the cupboards from a kitchen design store, then have the countertop made. The faucets were purchased at Lowe’s in California, but they say “Made In Germany”. That confused the heck out of the German customs agents…
Here is half of our “master retreat”. The other half is in process and will hopefully involve a fireplace and a wall of bookshelves to accompany my overstuffed reading chair. Soenke is still protesting any and all use of “decorative pillows” on our bed.

She said “Mom” but I really think she meant, “Look, Ma, I don’t want to say “Mom” on your video. Really. Well, maybe if you promise to buy me lots of MAC makeup when I hit my teens…”
PS - I’m coming to move into your bathroom. My entire apartment could fit in there.
PPS - I bought a “green” Honda. Not totally glamorous but at least it doesn’t have “Soccer Mom” written all over it.

Jeni you have always had such a great eye for design. Get rid of the calculator and start designing for a living.
I almost released a tear or two hearing Sophie say Mom.

I have a little girl over in GA that just flailed her arms and legs about when she saw Sophie in her colorful outfit (ok there were two little girls flailing about -Zahra and I). So cute and so nice to see her personality.
WOW OMG you’ve created such a pleasurable place to live & work, not to mention I love your colour palate. Come to my house next month, I could really use a mak over.

I really love your new decoration. I wonder if you consider using great oil painting instead of picture frame to accentuate the atmosphere in your home. I came across this website which provides museum quality oil painting very affordable. You can also send them your photo and they hand paint it for you.

Can’t you send your blog some lovin from LA? I drove by the Berg…. Stedt, that is, yesterday and cruised right on by your street without even knowing I did until it was right up in front of me. If I had had more time, I could have driven by and peeped in the windows for you.

Keep up the blog - I always enjoy reading. I’m off to NZ & Tasmania for the next couple of weeks. It’s been cold, wintry and rainy here in Melbourne, I’d love to be visiting Dubai as well!
