USA-Ghana…OUCH!
What can I say, we all know the outcome! The American Women’s Club babes caught the game from the rooftop Hamburg VIP Lounge out at Heiligengeist Field (where about 20,000 fans congregated in the public viewing area way below!)
I arrived with my flag just in time to sing the national anthem, then agonize with the rest of the gang as the US proceeded to miss…ahem… about 90% of their opportunities to slam one in. But a huge CONGRATS to Clint Dempsey and his faaaaabulous MOM AND DAD - Clint scored the one US goal ! Mr. & Mrs. Dempsey were as nice as possible, as was Clint’s brother (who hopes to move to Germany… dude, don’t forget WINTER, I say WINTER. Buy yourself a nice summer home here instead…)
Even though the US team and friends/family have headed back to US soil, the fun is hardly over here in Hamburg! German patriotic spirit is absolutely rampant, rabid, wild, hilarious, exciting, and unprecedented! After Germany’s decisive win on Saturday against Sweden, the entire city headed down to the Alster Lake with all their patriotic duds on - including grandmas in red-yellow-black wigs, about a million flags, face paint everywhere, and lots of smiles. Horns honked, champagne flowed, cheers rippled through the Jungfernstieg, and a laser light show topped off the night.
Observing all the international camaraderie and fun resulting from the World Cup, our girl Trish Freund sagely declared: “GOD LOVES SOCCER!”

Susan (also from Orange County) & I lounge like lizards while we take in the game:
Tracy Moede seems pretty calm in the face of so many missed goals:
Alyssa and Kara just like the free drinks!:
At the end, I turn over my crown to my new friends from Ghana!:
