California Dreamin’…(and Workin’…)
So what does a busy traveling girl do between fabulous trips? She works. A lot. Especially in September and October when there are deadlines, deadlines, deadlines.
So here I am back in Southern California, enjoying a remarkable Indian summer (temperatures today topped 97F / 36C) from the comfort of my air-conditioned office. When the going gets tough, I can look out my office window at the sparkling Pacific Ocean, swaying palm trees, and Catalina Island. Who can complain about THAT?!
As if I didn’t have enough to do, I decided to buy a small apartment here (emphasis on small… it’s 550 ft2 / 51 m2). I can assure you, it is no easy feat finding an affordable place in a county where the median home price is higher than some countries’ gross domestic product. But the gods smiled upon me, and I discovered a cheap pearl in the neighborhood oyster. So my little pearl is being renovated for late-November move-in, and will serve as my Pacific crash pad when I come visit So Cal.
And what does that do to our Indian Ocean December holiday? It turns it into a Pacific Ocean EASTER ISLAND holiday! YEAH! Either that, or an Acapulco holiday… or Costa Rica… or Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo. I’m not picky… uh….as long as I get to see the BIG HEADS ON EASTER ISLAND someday before I die!
We will keep you informed as events unfold. In the meantime, we’re trying to keep the entire state of California from burning down (it’s fire season), and the southern US from sinking to the bottom of the ocean. It’s total chaos here in the States. I’m crossing my fingers for the silver lining to reveal itself soon! (PLEASE!)
Next week, I plan to relive the joy of standby as I head back to Hamburg. Stay tuned in the coming weeks, as we will possibly bring you Helsinki, Paris, and even MALTA during the second half of October!
Cheers from So Cal!

Yes I do actually WORK, but with this view at sunset, it’s almost a pleasure!
Signing the purchase documents….
…for my new pied-a-terre:

Maybe I’ll let the other residents use ‘my pool’:
But most importantly, what’s there not to like about the BIG HEADS of Easter Island?! (I’ll get there someday!)

Your new place looks great!!! Congrats!!!
While the big heads are awesome, they don’t seem to require much adventure - you just stand there and look at them. My advise is to go to some of the more exciting locations now and save the big heads until a point in your life when there’s not much you’d rather do than stand and look at big heads.
Acapulco is awesome for a vacation especially if you like to stay up and party until the sun comes up. I’ve heard fabulous things about Costa Rica - you can swing through tree tops on a cable and see monkeys. C’mon, that’s AWESOME (as long as the monkeys don’t throw their poop at you)!
