MALLORCA !
Welcome to the world of Mediterranean holiday islands! Our first for the year is the Balearic island of MALLORCA. Muy bueno!! For our American readers, it’s the first-world answer to Cabo San Lucas, but much much better. Plus, the hotel rates down there are shockingly cheap. Soenke found a 35-euro-per-night rate for an ocean view deluxe apartment. Not bad!
We enjoyed 3 days of relaxation and exploration, including motoring around the island… getting lost in quaint villages… visiting lighthouses at the end of narrow, very-high-up, scary roads… standing on the edge of plunging cliffs to see the gorgeous ocean below… admiring the turquoise water at the beaches… gaping at topless sunbathers… going SAILING… eating tapas… all so bueno!
The most surreal thing about this *Spanish* island is that since the holiday areas are overrun with Germans and Brits, most of the restaurants serve only German and British food ! It was weird! We practically had to send out a search team to find us a tapas bar, or anything remotely Spanish in nature. Whatever happened to “when in Rome” ???
Overall, we had a fantastic time. I was especially delighted to learn that I still retained some of my Spanish linguistic abilities from that one year in high school where I think I showed up occasionally for Spanish class…

Liz wow it’s SO GREAT to hear from you! What a huge treat! I sent you an email off-blog…
Lili thanks a LOT now I have this boyfriend reminding me every day how “hot he is” because Lili said so ! hahahahaha it’s so great! I’m sure you made his day.
Bro, step OUT of the cubicle and INTO a 747 and get yourself to Hamburg. With kid #4 on the way, will you EVER leave So Cal again? Hey thanks for keeping Mom & Dad well stocked with grandkids though. Remind the boys that “Aunt Sis is coming back soon”…
Heather I think we’re going sailing again in Hamburg this weekend. We will think of you! Thanks for keeping my website looking cool. You da BOMB.

Ha ha Jeni, Soenke may be hot, but did I mention you’re just as hot and have fabulous (extreme jealousy inducing!) hair?
Hamou said you’re very “cute,” too (his words)…I forced him to look at all of your Mallorca photos to get a male perspective, but he refused to comment on Soenke’s hotness factor. He has a great fear of being even slightly “zamal” you know. (rolling eyes) LOL.

In answer to Daniel’s question about the lighthouse photo (see Zurich post), “my people” & I consulted, checked out the Mallorca map, & my significant other’s memory served much better than mine. It is the Cap de Pera lighthouse, near Cala Rajada.
